Daedalus Touch – Text Editor for iCloud App Reviews

Interesting concept, solid execution, horrible packaging

Let me explain that: Im intrigued by the concept of stacks and sheets as designed here. The editor feels snappy and seems to work solidly. However, I am feeling a bit of distaste for how the app is sold. I would rather pay $5 for an app upfront than pay $1 and then find out that every feature I wanted to try is IAP locked. Finally - iOS 8 is here, the new iCloud is a fact of life... Almost every app I actually use has updated to use the new iCloud, and the only reason I can see for not having updated right away is to drive purchases of the cloud syncing features. I hope to revisit this when the app has been updated, but for now this is even souring me to trying their much bigger ullysses for Mac OS.

(Still) My favorite text editor for the iPad

This app is one of my all time favorite text editor on any device. The only feature missing for me is markdown preview. Even without that, this is a solid app, well worth the asking price. Buy it.

One of the better iOS text editors

There are tons of text editors, but Daedalus is one of the best 3-4 for me (along with Drafts, Textkraft and Editorial). The coolest feature, for me, is the ability to jump back/foward a letter with 1 finger anywhere in the margin, but 2 fingers jumps by a whole word. However, a few more tweaks are needed to really put it aside DRAFTS. - no UNDO/REDO button? ouch - On iOS 8, startup is very slow if memory is low - Needs an alternate way to view larger numbers of files - The Sync one or Sync all option for dropbox is great

It Deleted Everything

Yes. Two years of irreplaceable notes, vanished. I even had Dropbox sync set up and somehow all of my notes are just gone. Thanks for nothing.

Top Notch with one Suggestion and one minor annoyance

#1 feature is the search function. Global search with instant results already in context with highlighted keywords. Amazing. Suggestion: it needs an "all notes" stack or at least "recent notes" to simply browse. And minor annoyance. Its all a bit too responsive. Flipping through sheets right to left moves to quickly to skim the contents. Still 5* though.

Standalone Markdown Keyboard

I would love to see you guys produce a standalone Markdown keyboard that could be used in all apps.

Pricing

Its a cool app, but why isnt this just listed as $4.99? "$0.99! Until you want to do absolutely anything with your text..." Yeah I know it says what the IAP will get you in the description, but it still feels shady to me. Id rather just buy it flat out instead of being drawn in by the $0.99 price tag only to need the IAP.

One of my favorite Apps!

Hands down one of my favorite Apps. Easy to use, reliable, I just love it!

Essential app for writers

This app, along with Ulysses, has become my go-to work flow for pretty much any kind of writing—from books to screenplays to you-name-it. Its also handy for public speaking. I put my talking points in Ulysses to export to iBooks via Daedalus. It makes delivering a message from my iPad quick and easy.

A great companion to Ulysses III

After loving the demo of Ulysses III on my Mac, I decided to purchase the app as well as Daedalus for my iPhone and iPad. So far its a great system for writing, and it inspires me to write. I did notice that Daedalus has yet to be fully optimized for iPhone 6. Other than that, I would highly recommend this app, along with Ulysses III for OS X.

One of the best but…

…need a passcode lock

Was good but....

Previous version allowed iCloud sync features. Now the update limits you with in app purchases. I will switch back to the apple notepad. Too bad because this app had potential.

Nice

Unique stacks method helps with organizing notes and writings

Only for markdown, and Hard time with exports

I didnt know when i got this app that it is was basically for markdown use only, if you choose not to use the markdown codes you will be limited. Sometimes i just want to write and post stories to other apps or on certain sites thats not compatible with markdown. Without using markdown theres no way to use bold and italics writing. And every time i try to export as a rtf. file with markdown, when i open it on my pc the format is weird, all the paragraphs are far apart, with huge spaces and its just a hassle to fix. Once they make it easier to just put in bold and italic writing and make everything simpler for everyone ill rate higher.

Loses Documents

Warning. This app just appears to have lost my most recent documents. There was a new upgrade recently, since then the icloud syncing is flaky. This happened in an earlier release a year or two ago. I was never entirely sure, but the documents seemed to all come back, back then. Im hoping for the best this time around, that what is missing will suddenly reappear. But I need to ask myself why I keep using this thing. It seems it cant be trusted.

LOVED THIS APP - UNTIL...

I have no idea how to rate this app! I loved it, until it lost an entire stack of irreplaceable information. NOT GOOD. So, Im headed to Dropbox to try to get the rest of my files and will not use it again - unless someone answers my "feedback" and find my files. BEWARE!!

Wont load on iPhone 6

Wont load on my iPhone 6. Keeps displaying a pulsing cloud on a black background. Needless to say I wont be making any in-app purchases to "extend functionality." :(

Unusable

Syncing with Ulysses is highly unreliable. In addition, there is no save button and you cannot save while editing. You must instead exit edit mode and wait for a microscopic cloud icon to flash. Poor design, choppy user experience.

Shocked

It is not often an app "WOWS" me. This app did. Apple would do well to mimic their architecture. Its just a little learning at first, but WAY MORE efficient than any filing system that Windows OR Apple has. I would have paid $100 for this app in college. Simplistic yet more efficient than Word or Pages. Its a text editor on steroids. Even iCloud and DropBox syncs to all devices!!! I am totally hooked on this app and LOVE IT!!!

Dont be fooled by the price tag.

Paid $0.99 for this app. Thought I was getting more than a trial version. As soon as you open it, they ask you for another $3.99 for BASIC word processing features - like exporting files, and Dropbox integration, and more than one font. Never would have bought if I had known this. I MIGHT have actually bought the app for $5 straight up if theyd just been honest.
